Marriage License Information for NJ Couples

If you're getting married in New Jersey, you'll need to obtain a marriage license before your ceremony.

In most cases, couples apply through the registrar in the municipality where either applicant resides. If neither applicant lives in New Jersey, the application is typically made in the municipality where the ceremony will take place.

There is generally a 72-hour waiting period before the license can be issued, so it's important to plan ahead. Requirements and office hours can vary, so always confirm the latest information with the appropriate local registrar before applying.
